Classic FM Christmas launched on 16 October 2026 as the first Global radio station devoted entirely to classical Christmas music. The idea is simple but strong: take the accessible classical sound associated with Classic FM and turn it into a continuous festive station. That means traditional carols sit alongside orchestral Christmas favourites, choirs, seasonal works and some of the classical pieces that have become inseparable from Christmas.
The playlist goes well beyond church carols. Listeners can hear music connected with Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker alongside festive film scores such as John Williams' music from Home Alone and Craig Armstrong's Love Actually score. Pieces including O Holy Night and Deck the Halls sit comfortably beside larger orchestral and choral works, giving the station considerably more variety than a playlist built entirely around Christmas pop records.
Classic FM Christmas is part of Global's wider Classic FM family alongside the main Classic FM service, Classic FM Calm and Classic FM Movies. It broadcasts on DAB+ in Greater London and is based within Global's operation at Leicester Square in London. For listeners who prefer classical music, choirs, orchestral soundtracks and traditional carols at Christmas, it fills a very specific gap that most festive radio stations largely ignore.
Notable shows & presenters are:
- Aled Jones – Classic FM Christmas launch: Classic FM presenter and singer Aled Jones fronted the launch campaign for Classic FM Christmas in October 2026. His connection with Christmas music, including Walking in the Air and his long-running festive work with Classic FM, made him the public face of the new station's launch, although Global has not announced him as the host of a regular Classic FM Christmas programme.
- Wake Up to Christmas: A morning programme on Classic FM Christmas built around uplifting classical Christmas favourites and bright seasonal music to start the day. Global currently lists the programme without an individual named presenter.
- Classic FM Christmas Mornings: Classic FM Christmas Mornings mixes uplifting carols with festive film music and accessible seasonal classical favourites. It is one of the named programme blocks available on the station.
- Afternoon Christmas Classics: Afternoon Christmas Classics provides a daytime selection of festive classical favourites, keeping the station focused on orchestral, choral and traditional Christmas music through the afternoon.
- Classic FM Christmas Dinner: Classic FM Christmas Dinner is designed as an evening festive soundtrack, bringing together classical Christmas music suited to dinner, entertaining and the quieter part of the day.
- Classic FM Christmas by Candlelight: Classic FM Christmas by Candlelight moves towards the station's softer side with soothing carols and peaceful seasonal classical music designed for late-night listening.
