Wicked Beats Radio is an independent internet radio station broadcasting from Birmingham in the West Midlands. Established in 2024, the station runs around the clock with a large rotating line-up of resident DJs rather than relying solely on a continuous automated playlist. Its schedule gives different presenters room to bring their own sound to the station throughout the week.
Reggae and dancehall are important parts of the Wicked Beats sound, with specialist selectors covering everything from roots and older reggae to modern dancehall and soca. The schedule stretches considerably further as well, moving through urban music, soul and R&B, house, jungle, drum and bass, Afrobeat, hip-hop, techno and other club-focused styles. That variety gives the station a distinctly DJ-led feel, with the sound changing noticeably from one programme to another.
Wicked Beats Radio also places an emphasis on independent DJs, specialist music and community. Its programming combines established selectors with newer talent, live and recorded DJ sets, specialist shows, interviews and music features. For listeners who enjoy radio with a less tightly formatted approach, Wicked Beats offers a broad mix of underground, Caribbean, urban and electronic music from Birmingham to a worldwide audience.
Notable shows & presenters are:
- DJ Baps – Reggae: DJ Baps presents recurring reggae sets on Wicked Beats Radio. His DJ background stretches back to ska and soul in the 1960s, followed by decades working with reggae, sound-system culture, promotion and radio, including his Foundation Music work.
- DJ Fyah – Dancehall & Soca: DJ Fyah presents specialist Dancehall and Soca programmes on Wicked Beats Radio. A co-owner of the station with more than 25 years in music, his background includes old-school reggae spanning the mid-1960s onwards as well as ragga jungle.
- DJ Danny – Bit of Everything: DJ Danny leads Wicked Beats Radio and presents the aptly named Bit of Everything, an open-format programme reflecting the station's willingness to move between reggae, urban music, dance and other styles rather than staying inside a single genre.
- DJ Phoenixx – Wicked Beats Radio Session: France-based DJ Phoenixx brings an international urban and club sound to Wicked Beats Radio, mixing hip-hop, rap, Afrobeat, reggaeton, Jersey Club, club edits and remixes. His Wicked Beats Radio Session showcases the harder-edged urban side of the station.
- DJ Apex – Wicked Beats Radio Show: DJ Apex presents a bass-heavy Wicked Beats Radio Show built around bass house, trap and EDM. His sets combine underground selections with bigger club tracks and add another electronic strand to the station's wide-ranging weekend output.
