SomaFM Bossa Beyond focuses on silky-smooth bossa nova, samba and related Brazilian-inspired sounds. The station sits in a stylish space between lounge, jazz, Latin rhythms and relaxed easy listening, making it ideal for background listening that still has musical shape and personality.
The channel’s identity is rooted in bossa nova’s rhythmic softness and melodic polish. Expect gentle guitar patterns, brushed percussion, cool vocals, samba touches and mellow arrangements that feel refined rather than sleepy. It is lounge-friendly, but not bland; the best of this sound has movement, warmth and a quiet sophistication that rewards proper listening.
Based in San Francisco, SomaFM has built its reputation on human-curated internet radio channels with strong musical identities. Bossa Beyond fits that model because it is focused rather than random: a carefully selected stream of bossa nova, samba and Brazilian-style rhythms for listeners who want something smoother, brighter and more distinctive than generic chillout radio.
Notable Presenters & Shows: Bossa Beyond is music-directed by Rusty Hodge, the founder of SomaFM. Hodge also programs several SomaFM channels and SomaFM specials, including Bossa Beyond. The station is not built around conventional breakfast or drive-time presenter shows; its identity comes from Hodge’s continuous curation of laid-back bossa nova, samba and Brazilian-style lounge sounds.
