Pure Dance has proper history behind it, which instantly makes it more interesting than a lot of modern copy-and-paste dance streams. The station's own story says it originally launched in the early 2000s, broadcasting across the UK on Sky TV channel 890 and online, with a line-up that included names such as Stu Allan, Slipmatt, Lisa Lashes, Billy 'Daniel' Bunter, Agnelli & Nelson, Matt Darey and others. By 2005, the station says it was pulling close to a million listeners a month before disappearing from Sky in early 2006.

The current version of Pure Dance is a relaunch rather than a continuation on autopilot. The station says it returned in 2024, first reviving archive material and then relaunching as a full service again. Its own site now positions it around huge dance tunes, classic anthems and branded specialist shows, with output spanning house, trance, rave house, progressive and electronic music rather than flattening everything into one bland playlist lane.

What gives the station some weight today is the line-up and format mix. Alongside in-house music blocks such as Pure Anthems, Non-Stop Pure Dance and The Mix at 7, the presenters page lists shows and brands including Protocol Radio with Nicky Romero, Group Therapy with Above & Beyond, Defected Radio Show, Paul van Dyk's VONYC Sessions, Solarstone's Pure Trance Radio, Slipmatt's World of Rave, MK's Area10 On Air, Toolroom Radio and VISION Radio. That is a much stronger proposition than a faceless stream pretending a logo counts as programming.

Notable shows & presenters are:

  • Nicky Romero: Hosts Protocol Radio, bringing fresh tracks, remixes and exclusives with a big-room, festival-led electronic sound.
  • Above & Beyond: Front Group Therapy, a flagship dance show built around new electronic music, a guest mix and the wider Anjunafamily community.
  • Paul van Dyk: Presents VONYC Sessions, delivering trance and progressive house every Sunday evening on Pure Dance.
  • Solarstone: Hosts Pure Trance Radio, focused on uplifting and melodic trance with fresh releases and enduring classics.
  • Slipmatt: Leads both World of Rave and Slip's House, covering rave culture, old skool, hardcore and newer house sounds.
