Platform B is a non-profit Brighton-based radio station that has been broadcasting online since 2016 and on 105.5 FM and DAB across Brighton & Hove since 1 October 2018. The station describes itself as next generation radio, and that tag is not empty branding. It is directed by a new wave of DJs, producers and presenters and broadcasts from studios in the city’s New England cultural quarter.

What makes Platform B worth paying attention to is that it is not trying to sound like a watered-down commercial station. Its own application and station material make clear that it is youth-led, focused on 16 to 24-year-olds, and built around new music, spoken word, poetry, current affairs, fashion, film and youth culture. That gives it a sharper purpose than a lot of community stations, which drift into safe filler because they are too scared to sound specific.

Platform B also has proper local roots in Brighton’s creative scene. The station runs pop-up broadcasts from venues and public spaces across the city, collaborates with festivals and grassroots arts projects, and gives younger broadcasters a real platform to build shows with personality. For listeners in Brighton and Sussex who want something more adventurous than generic local radio, Platform B has a much clearer identity than most.

Notable shows & presenters are:

  • Erin James: Presented The Rising, Brighton & Hove’s first youth-led breakfast show, bringing interviews, live sessions and socially engaged discussion to the station.
  • Jordi Carter: Co-presented The Rising, helping front Platform B’s breakfast output during the show’s run.
  • Elsa Monteith: Co-presented The Rising, adding an arts, writing and culture-driven voice to the breakfast show team.
  • Eva Lunny: Producer on The Rising and host of Another Side, a show focused on post-punk, indie, alternative and psychedelic new releases.
  • Serena: Hosts Eclectia, the show used for Platform B’s 2025 AUDIO DUNE interview during The Great Escape coverage.
