Ocean City Radio
Local radio for local people
Ocean City Radio is a Plymouth community station built around genuinely local voices, local accents and local stories. It is one of those stations that actually tries to rebuild a sense of place instead of pretending a generic music feed counts as local radio.

Ocean City Radio launched on 5 November 2018 and was created with a very specific aim: to rebuild a stronger sense of local community through radio. That mission still runs through the station. It is not trying to sound like a mini national brand. It is trying to sound like Plymouth and the wider local area, with local people talking about local things in a way commercial radio largely abandoned years ago.
The station leans hard into community value. Its own mission says it works with disadvantaged children, local unsigned artists, independent agencies and organisations including Age UK, Samaritans, Citizens Advice and Plymouth Community Homes. That gives it more substance than a lot of smaller stations, because the programming is tied to real local involvement rather than vague claims about being “for the community” while doing nothing with that idea.
Ocean City Radio also has a broad enough schedule to feel alive rather than repetitive. Alongside music shows, it carries local discussion, local sport, outside broadcasts and day-to-day listener interaction through its presenters. The station is run by volunteers and supplements live output with syndicated shows where needed, but the important thing is that the identity stays local. For Plymouth and the surrounding patch, that is exactly what community radio should be doing.
Notable shows & presenters are:
- John Hallett-Commander – The Freshly Squeezed Breakfast Show: John Hallett-Commander fronts The Freshly Squeezed Breakfast Show, one of the named anchor shows in the schedule and part of the station’s local morning identity.
- Mick Hall – The 90s & 00s Show: Mick Hall presents The 90s & 00s Show, giving Ocean City Radio a recognisable nostalgia slot built around familiar hits from two huge pop decades.
- Lee Everest – Dance Party Weekly: Lee Everest hosts Dance Party Weekly, one of the clearer specialist music strands on the station with a more upbeat club-focused edge.
- Dave Mac – Daytimes: Dave Mac is part of the core daytime output, helping give the station a steady presenter-led backbone during the working day.
- Brian Woolfson – Woolfy: Brian Woolfson, billed as Woolfy, is one of the named Ocean City Radio presenters and adds another local personality to the station’s varied schedule.
