Liskeard Radio began broadcasting in November 2013 on 87.7 FM under a 28-day RSL licence in the run-up to Christmas. In April 2020 it became one of only a small number of Cornish stations to broadcast online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That history matters because it shows the station was built from genuine local effort rather than launched as a throwaway online stream with no roots in the area.
In August 2024 the station rebranded as Liskeard & Looe Radio to reflect the wider communities it was supporting across South East Cornwall. That gives a better picture of what the station actually does now. It covers local events, promotes area businesses, keeps close ties with community organisations and uses presenter-led output rather than hiding behind an endless automated playlist. It is still small-scale radio, but it has a clearer local purpose than plenty of bigger stations claiming to be “close to the community”.
For listeners in Cornwall, the appeal is straightforward. This is a station shaped by local voices, local names and local involvement, with a growing team of presenters and a visible role at events and in area coverage. Whether someone still searches for Liskeard Radio or knows the newer Liskeard & Looe Radio branding, they are basically looking for the same thing: a South East Cornwall station with familiar presenters, personality and proper local connection.
Notable shows & presenters are:
- Mike Allsopp - The Late Breakfast Show: Mike Allsopp is publicly promoted with The Late Breakfast Show and is also listed by the station as a company director, making him one of the clearest core figures in the current on-air lineup.
- Ken Strange - Spinning Rock Boogie: Ken Strange is listed by the station with Spinning Rock Boogie, giving the schedule a defined specialist strand rather than flattening everything into the same generic music output.
- Jim Averill - The Professor of Pop: Jim Averill is publicly promoted as “The Professor of Pop”, with the station announcing his Sunday 4pm to 6pm slot and pushing him as a notable addition to the lineup.
- Barry Green - Barry G: Barry Green, promoted as Barry G, is part of the official presenter team and one of the named current DJs tied clearly to the station’s public-facing lineup.
- Alex Hearn - Alex “The Vibe” Hearn: Alex Hearn, billed as Alex “The Vibe” Hearn, is listed among the station’s presenters and has also been highlighted in local coverage as a newer addition to the team.
