WCR Community Radio is a genuine Warminster station, not a generic playlist with a local badge stuck on it. The station launched on 1 April 1996 and grew from an idea for a hospital radio service into a full community radio project for Warminster and the immediate surrounding area. Its story includes years of restricted service broadcasts, fundraising, local volunteer effort and campaigning before the station began full broadcasting on 1 April 2012.

The station’s output is built around the local area, with community news, events, local information, charity updates, education features, arts programming and music across a wide range of styles. WCR’s own key commitments describe a service for Warminster and nearby communities, with music including pop, classical, jazz, country, world music and soul, plus local and unsigned artists. That gives the station a broad, useful local sound rather than locking it into one narrow format.

WCR also matters because it has a proper volunteer and community backbone. The station provides locally produced output, gives members of the community a route into broadcasting, and has built a strong local presence from Civic Centre Studios in Warminster. For listeners in Warminster, West Wiltshire and nearby villages, WCR is the kind of station that still does the unglamorous but important local-radio work: local voices, local events, local updates and a sense that the town is actually being heard.
