Sam FM Bristol Redirect to the new radio station Hits Radio Bristol

Sam FM Bristol launched on 20th May 2007 under the Tomahawk Radio network, as Original 106. It used to pride itself on being a truly local radio station for Bristol, and regularly involved locals in programming and events.

On 2nd December 2009, the format was changed to reflect a franchise agreement, changing the name to JACK fm Bristol and playing Alternative Rock, classic hits and indie music. The Jack FM brand originates in the USA and Canada, where radio stations franchise the format and name. The same happened here. Celador Radio purchased the JACK fm station in September 2010.

On 1st April 2015, the name of the station was changed to Sam FM - a move by Celador to replicate JACK's success. This failed to gain the same popularity, as it did sound different with not-so-funny jokes and one-liners heard between songs.

On 6th September 2021, this station changed to Hits Radio Bristol after being bought by Bauer Media. This changed the format of the station entirely by now playing chart music, and changing the demographic to a more younger audience. The station is now networked with the Hits Radio UK brand, sharing programming with nearby Hits Radio stations.
