Lyme Bay Radio launched in March 2020 after around 18 months of planning, and like everything else at that point it was immediately hit by the disruption of lockdown. What matters is that it did not fold. The team rebuilt the station through remote recordings, online coordination and volunteer effort, then restarted in July 2020 and kept pushing forward. That origin story gives the station more character than a lot of small online outlets because it was clearly built by people who actually wanted a local station to exist, not just another stream with a logo.

The station has developed into a broad community service rather than a one-format niche stream. Its own presenter lineup shows that properly: local interviews, country, soul, reggae, chart history, rock, metal, hip hop, sports coverage and dance music all sit alongside each other. That range is a strength. Lyme Bay Radio does not sound boxed in by one narrow brief. It sounds like a community station trying to reflect different tastes, ages and interests across the area instead of flattening everything into the same safe playlist.

For listeners around Lyme Regis, Charmouth and the wider Dorset coastline, Lyme Bay Radio works because it feels close to the patch.
