Harborough FM is one of the established community radio stations in the East Midlands, with roots going back to 1994 and a full-time launch in 2007. It was created to give Market Harborough, South Leicestershire and nearby parts of North Northamptonshire a genuinely local service, rather than leaving the area dependent on broader regional output that could never fully reflect day-to-day community life.
That local focus still defines the station. Harborough FM combines music radio with a strong flow of neighbourhood news, events coverage, interviews and community information, making it useful as well as entertaining. For listeners in and around Market Harborough, it is the kind of station that can cover council issues, charity activity, traffic problems, sport, schools and local events without sounding detached from the place it serves.
The station also has the qualities that make community radio worth keeping: volunteer involvement, local training, specialist shows and a schedule that reflects the personalities behind it rather than a generic playlist machine. That gives Harborough FM more character than many bigger stations, while still making it easy to drop in for breakfast, daytime information, weekend features and niche music programming.
Notable shows & presenters are:
- Dave Irving – Breakfast Show: Dave Irving hosts weekday breakfast from 7am, with local and national news every half hour, traffic and travel updates, plus regular features including Twinspin and Three Of A Kind.
- Moley – The Lunchtime Bit: Moley’s lunchtime show mixes music with community conversation, guest interviews and topical local discussion, drawing on his long-running role at the centre of station life.
- Simon Parry – Saturday Sports Show: Simon Parry fronts the Saturday Sports Show from 2pm to 5pm, covering local and national sport with a strong eye on Leicester City and the wider weekend fixture list.
- Chris Jones – Sunday Bit In The Middle: Chris Jones hosts Sunday Bit In The Middle from 11am to 2pm, with features including Mystery Voice, Croon at Noon and Commercial Crackers.
- Paul Wright – 60’s Sunday: Paul Wright presents 60’s Sunday every Sunday morning from 8am to 11am, giving Harborough FM a long-running specialist show with a clear identity.
- Dave Smith – Mid-Mornings: Dave Smith’s mid-morning show blends music, local talk, celebrity interviews and a more personality-led daytime sound.
