History Behind Radio Player UK...

It all started in the Summer Holidays of 2006, in a town called Frome, which is located in North East Somerset, in the South West of England, UK. The creator wanted to make a website that he could access local stations of the area, as at the time there were plans to move to Bridport, which is in South Dorset, also in the UK. At the time, a website was on the internet that he already owned, called xlNitro. But because it was so far away from Frome, he decided to create a website that would give links of station websites and streams, so he could listen to them in Bridport like he did in Frome. "Radio Player" was born.

2006 - 2007:
GWR FM Wilts, 3TR FM, Orchard FM, GWR Bath and Wave 105 were just of a few stations first listed. After a while, the creator got bored of these listings and the website (then hosted free with ads popping up everywhere) was recieving about 1 or 2 hits per month, even though the original intention was to use the site as a personal directory.

In the coming months, Radio Player UK had 8 weeks dedicated to updating the radio directory, including making room for stations based in other parts of the UK. As the site gained more stations, the site name was changed from "Radio Player" to "Radio Player UK" to suit the ever-growing list of live UK radio.

During the time of populating these lists, Radio Player UK got word that for international users, UK radio would not be available. This meant that for a very large part of the site, the site was useless, as most of the users at the time were from abroad! Nevertheless, the site was tailored to bring UK users full access to the country's radio stations. Later 2006 to early 2007, internet-only stations began popping up on the site, meaning that international users can at least listen to something on the site.

In Spring 2007, something was to transform Radio Player UK forever. To this day, it hasn't looked back - the Radio Player UK Toolbar. At this time, the toolbar was not a big part of the site, but the site made it easier to use the toolbar with. CLICK HERE FOR ARCHIVE OF THE WEBSITE AT THIS TIME.

2007 - May 2010:
At this point, Radio Player UK was more advanced that what it ever had been before. Thanks to the toolbar, users were going onto the site and actually staying on it, as there was far more access to live radio.

In 2008, the whole website began a huge overhaul for design as the coding for the previous site was making the site load slowly. This meant copying everything the old site had and refreshing all the links to keep them working. The process only took 2 weeks and was live shortly after. It improved loading time and was more guaranteed to work. CLICK HERE TO SEE NEW DESIGN.

However, later in 2008, the site met a brick wall. The creator and a few associates wanted to redesign the site again, this time going from the well-known Radio Player UK to a non-successful site called "TV 2 Radio". The reason for this was to make the site's name more obvious to what the site actually does, and would have improved stats and ranking in Google searches. This was a very bad move to make as momentum was lost half way through the re-design and the site was left unfinished. What's more, the toolbar itself was killed off by taking everything off but the search engine.

For some reason, the creator of Radio Player UK went on to other projects such as SW Serve from 2009 to 2010, which was a site designed for the South West of England and features useful features like news, weather and local information. This too ran out of momentum and died.

The creator then went on to produce another toolbar - The UK Toolbar, but as that was being planned, he went on the toolbar hosting site, just out of boredom, and logged in as Radio Player UK. He stunned at what he saw. Since its "death", the toolbar managed to fetch around 2000 downloads, meaning the Radio Player UK Toolbar was proving very popular.

Since then, domain names have been purchased, the radio station list has been re-created from scratch, and the rest is history.
